Member's Guests and Visitors

The club rules are quite specific about guests and visitors. The following is a common sense interpretation of the way it works:

Members may bring a guest as long as they supervise that guest. They can do this up to five times and then that guest is expected to either join the club or desist from further use of the club. The idea is that this gives the guest a chance to try the facilities before deciding whether or not to join. It also allows members to take visitors afloat to show them the joys of our local waters. If your other half comes along once a year, fair enough. It is not so that two people can use the club for the price of one membership.

We used to have Joint Memberships and Family Memberships and all sorts of concessionary complications. This has now been simplified to Single Adult Membership. £75 a year is still the best bargain in town. Some gyms charge that much a month. Most boat clubs charge twice as much just to be a member and then you have to buy your own boat!

Members may bring their children for free as long as they supervise those children. This makes boating affordable for families but necessitates a sensible ratio of adult members to children, ie probably not more than one adult to two children depending on the ability of the children. We are always delighted to see families afloat but safety must come first. Every member of your party must be entered separately in the log book and marked as Member, Guest or Junior. Member + 3 will not do!

Please do not abuse the system. All membership fees go into the maintenance of the club and the purchase of new boats for you to enjoy. It is not fair on paid up members if others are using these boats and not paying their dues, especially if it means that the boats are unavailable for those who have paid.

Above all, any member letting a non member use the club by lending them their key and telling them the door combination will feel the full wrath of the committee.

Remember, we are here to help you with training and enjoyment of the boats. Please don't hesitate to ask for help and advice. We all want a healthy future for the club; bring your friends by all means but then get them to join!
